An Average Week

Of course our little guy changes every week, but this week was on the average side. His interest in stuffed creatures has increased, as well as the sound effects to match. This video shows his chicken boking of late.

Projects and Progress

Some projects I've been working on for my little guy and others...shoes, pants, diapers. I made these for a friend who is due in less than 3 weeks.

The first pocket diaper I've ever made...still working out the velcro details, apparently I bought the hook side that gums up your sewing machine. I changed the needle in my machine but I'm still having trouble even with a thimble and needle to push through the goo.

I made these pants out of recycled sweaters, he has long legs and a slim waist so tailor made suites him best. I also made these booties/shoes from a recycled sweater.

Look at all those teeth!

He're another pair of pants I made him out of a sweater I was given over a year ago for his very purpose...they're cashmere! He loves his tractor from Grandma and Grandpa S.

Gifts from Grandma and Grandpa H

My mom made his froggie hat, and everywhere we go, he gets comments on how cute the hat is :)

Grandpa and Grandma H

Here with my sister
Can you tell he had teeth coming in?

"Yeah! I love that Grandpa got down on the floor and played with me all day!"

My mom emailed me some photos of our visit with them in October so I wanted to put them up while I had a minute.

Big 1 and 75

I know his birthday was in November, but here are the photos. I found a frosting gun in a free box at a garage sale last summer and tried it out for the first time here....I need some practice, and maybe unlumpy frosting.
Carrot cake, of course because I thought he might actually eat it, but he did more playing with it than eating. His hair became frosted :)

He's getting the hang of this tearing paper thing.

Here is 1 and 75. A year ago when my water broke, November 16 I went out for a walk and ran into Marilyn (our dear next door neighbor). When I told her my water broke, she jokingly made a request for me to hold off a few days until November 18 so the baby would be born on her birthday. At the time I was thinking "oh, I hope it won't be that long!" Sure enough they share their birthday and I'm so glad. We miss Marilyn so much since we've moved.

Last winter we received a few barrels of scrap wood from a cabinet shop to burn in the woodstove. As we loaded the woodstove I kept thinking they would make great blocks for S in a year or so. I started stashing blocks in drawers as I found the perfect sized blocks for his set. Now he has an 'all natural' set of blocks, and the best part is....they were free....walnut, fir, birch, maple, alder, and some we haven't identified.

No Harm Done

Our little guy has become ever so mobile. And we all know they put everything in their mouth. Last night he relieved himself on the toilet, lo and behold a hexagon broke loose and floated to the surface. It then dawned on me I had seen this little shape before....the little corks that stick to the inside of the cupboards to keep them from slamming hard. This is to my knowledge the first non-edible object that he has eaten and passed. LOL.

In other news, these are some things he has picked up since Thanksgiving: pulling himself up to stand on furniture and people, crawling, making truck and tractor noises while playing, uses sign language for "milk" (nursing), "more", and "all done". He also rolls a ball back and forth to play with you, he stacks blocks 5 high, he knows his head, tummy, toes, teeth, sometimes ears and nose. He points to what he wants, or wants you to see, and points to many things in books when I ask him 'where's the....?' including tractor, truck, sheep, cow, chicken, pig. He is fascinated with doors, drawers, wheels, switches, faucets, anything mechanical. It seems like everyday now there is something new with him and I love it, it is so much fun. Hope you all have a happy New year!

Busy Fall

This is the beginning of restarting to blog, we have moved, and now are settled. Here are some photos of life this fall. This fall has been busy, in addition to the hard drive frying on our computer, so my posts have been none existant. Sorry about that, I know many of you like to see recent photos of S. Here he is at Colorfest, the balloon festival over the hot springs in September.

He enjoyed the entire experience, the people, the dogs and especially the balloons when they flew right over us.

We had a small patch of grass that was thoroughly taken advantage of this summer and fall, usually when I was hanging clothes on the line or taking them down.

With Aunt Janice at Grandma Florence's house.

Playing the organ with Grandma Judy.

He finally got to meet Grandpa Bill, they had a good time. He also got to hang out with Grandpa and Grandma H, but unfortunately we didn't get pictures on my camera. (Mom: send me some so I can put them up)

Little did we know at the time that his love for tractors would blossom. He is one tractor lovin' kid ! When I ask him 'Where is the tractor?' he unfailingly points to the tractor on the page, or his toy tractor. He is now doing this with trucks, chickens and sheep also.

It's so great to have cousins. L here with S is great at 'trading' toys, if what S had was more desirable.

Snuggled up with Great grandma Florence.

When we got home from Wisconsin, our friend Andy came to visit from Summit. Our house had sold at this point and we were trying to garage sale in frigid weather.

In November we went to ABQ so J could help our friends Lorraine and Andrew reroof one of their houses. Samuel made some new friends including the 20 chickens who reside at the dead end oasis and Drummlin, their black lab.

summer fun

We've had a pretty good summer, but have spent more time outside than on the computer, so these photos are from the past 2 months or so.

At the fair petting a Gypsy Vanner, beautiful horse.
Checking out the chickens, rabbits and turkeys, he was quite intrigued by these animals. Didn't get any photos of him with the goats, sheep, pigs and cows, but we touched them also.

Summer has brought many opportunities to get filthy, and therefore also get "tub time", which he absolutely loves.

Maybe it's just water in general, we've been taking him down to swim in the river and he can't get enough of it. He sleeps pretty sound and long after a river day of kicking and splashing.

His typical stare.

Look, can you see his teeth?

After we were at camp for 2 weeks, we took everything to the laudromat to be cleaned and dried, J couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a few shots.

At camp with friend Leah, 4 months younger but the same size.

The lupines were splendid at the time we were at camp, and also happened to be a good toy.

Picking more lupines.
